3. Before you Start
ACCOUNT AND SUBSCRIPTION
To use this product you must have an active Equimetrics account and subscription. If you do not already have an account, visit www.equimetrics.ie and follow the instructions to set one up. If your organisation already has an account, simply follow these instructions to link this product with
your account
You will also need to download the latest version of the Equimetrics® V-PRO mobile phone app from the Play Store or App Store.
4. Setup the LoRa Gateway

If you have not done so already, you will need to set-up a LoRa gateway in order to use the device.
ATTACH THE LORA ANTENNA
Screw the antenna onto the RP-SMA connector on the back panel of the LoRa gateway.
WARNING
DO NOT POWER ON THE GATEWAY WITHOUT FIRST ATTACHING THE ANTENNA, AS THIS MAY DAMAGE THE DEVICE.
POWER ON THE LORA GATEWAY
It is recommended to use the 12 VDC adapter that comes with the LoRa gateway.
5. Link the Sensor Device with your Account

CHARGE THE SENSOR DEVICE
Unbox the V-PRO device and ensure you have all of the components.
Connect the charging cable provided to the sensor device as shown, and plug it into a power outlet.
The power outlet should be within range of the WiFi network.
It’s recommended to leave the device connected to the power source, and allow it to fully charge while you complete the set-up process.

LINK THE SENSOR DEVICE WITH YOUR ACCOUNT
The device LED will be glowing white – indicating it is in set-up mode. If the LED is not illuminated, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn on the device.
On your phone, log into the Equimetrics V-PRO app.
From the home page, navigate to the ‘Devices’ section in the main menu and select the ‘Add Device’ option.

PAIR THE SENSOR DEVICE WITH YOUR BLUETOOTH
Follow the on-screen instructions in the V-PRO app.
Scan the QR code on the rear of the V-PRO device to pair with your mobile device.
Alternatively, the V-PRO device can be selected manually from a list of nearby BLE devices.
Press ‘Select Device Manually’ to activate this option.

ALLOW ACCESS TO YOUR WI-FI NETWORK
Select a Wi-Fi network that will be in range when the device is charging, Wi-Fi will be used to upload any large ECG files to the cloud for analysis.
It will also enable device updates to be installed automatically when available.
Input the correct Wi-Fi passcode and press ‘Submit’ when complete.

SET UP COMPLETE
Upon successful provisioning of your new V-PRO device, you will be presented with the above screen.
When set up is complete the LED will glow solid red to indicate the device is in charging mode.
If a new version of the sensor firmware is available, it will automatically start to download. The LED will flash purple while this is happening. Please do not disconnect from the charger during this process.
6. Using the Harness

ATTACH THE ELECTRODES TO THE HARNESS
Remove the harness from the storage bag and lay flat.
Fasten 3 of the ECG electrodes provided to the marked locations on the V-PRO harness.
The electrode pads are reusable and can be sterilised between uses.
For the ECG to function correctly, apply a small amount of the electrode gel provided on each electrode pad.

POSITIONING THE HARNESS ON THE HORSE
The “V-PRO” logo (shown) indicates the wither pad (A), this is the top of the harness and is placed over the horse’s head.
To fit the harness, first open the 2 clips (marked B).
While holding the harness by the wither pad, pass the horse’s head through the loop in the same way you would fit a Martingale or Breastplate, allowing the girth strap to hang in front of the horse.

SECURE THE GIRTH STRAP
Pass the girth strap through the horse’s legs and secure in place with the 2 clips as indicated.
Adjust the length of the straps to ensure a good fit.
The fit should be snug, but not tight. The device is designed to be worn 24 hours per day, as such, preventing rubbing on the sensitive girth & wither areas is very important.
7. Start Monitoring

POWER ON THE SENSOR DEVICE
Fit the V-PRO harness to the horse, ensuring all straps are snug.
Turn on the V-PRO device by holding the power button for 3 seconds, wait until the LED glows green.
After a few moments, the LED will start to flash green indicating that it is in microchip scanning mode.
To start a live session, a LoRa gateway must be installed and within range of the animal to be monitored.

SCAN THE HORSE MICROCHIP
Hold the device as shown with power button facing you, and move it up and down against the horse’s neck.
Once the microchip is detected, the device will beep twice and the LED will now begin to pulse green, indicating it has connected to the LoRa network and is ready to use.
If no LoRa network is detected, the LED will be blue.
If a microchip cannot be found, or you want to skip this step, press the ‘Scan Bypass’ button, this will exit scan mode and will start an unidentified monitoring session.

CLIP THE SENSOR DEVICE IN THE HOLSTER
The device can now be placed into the holster on the V-PRO harness.
A live session has successfully been activated, this can be confirmed by opening the app and viewing the live session.
If the LED is Blue – the device has failed to connect to the LoRa network and live data cannot be viewed. However, ECG can still be recorded and uploaded via WiFi for subsequent analysis.

VIEW THE LIVE SESSION IN THE APP
Open the V-PRO app and select the horse on the ‘Live Session’ screen to view its data.
If this is the first time this horse’s microchip has been scanned with the V-PRO system, the session will be identified by the microchip number. You can add the horse name and other details by following the instructions in the app
Ending A Session
There are three ways to end a session.
- Press the Power button to end the current session and turn off the device.
- Press the Scan Bypass button on the device – the V-PRO sensor will end the current session and start a new one.
- Attaching the charging cable to the V-PRO device. This will end the current session and begin charging the internal battery. The LED will flash red as the device attempts to connect to Wi-Fi to offload any large ECG files.
8. Recording ECG

START AN ECG
To start recording an ECG you will need to be within Bluetooth range of the relevant V-PRO Sensor.
In the menu of the App select ‘ECG Tool’.
Select your sensor from the devices list, if it does not appear immediately refresh the page and select your device.

ENTER PAIRING CODE
The first time you connect your phone to the V-PRO sensor you will be asked to enter a security code.
This step will not need to be repeated when you use the same device again but will need to be repeated if using devices that have not previously been associated with your phone.

SELECT THE DURATION OF THE REQUIRED ECG
You will now be on the screen where you can start an ECG. Select the time period that you wish to record an ECG and press ‘Start ECG Recording‘.
The ECG is now being recorded on the device.

VIEW THE LIVE TRACE
Select ‘View live ECG‘ to check the trace quality.
You will be able to view the live ECG when- ever you are within Bluetooth range of the V-PRO Sensor.
Once out of range, you cannot view the live trace, however the ECG will continue recording for the selected duration.

ENDING AN ECG
The ECG will stop automatically once the selected duration has elapsed.
If you are within Bluetooth range you can stop the ECG manually at any time, through the app. There is an option to ‘Stop and Save‘, or ‘Stop and Discard‘.

VIEWING THE ENTIRE ECG RECORDING
Connect the charging cable to the V-PRO Sensor in a Wifi enabled area. The ECG will automatically be uploaded to the cloud where it will be processed.
The report will appear in your App under “ECG History“.
The length of time that it takes to download the report to your phone will depend on the length of the ECG.

SHARE ECG REPORT
If you want to share the ECG report with a colleague select the appropriate ECG and navigate to the menu in the top right corner of the app. Select ‘Share ECG‘.
The ‘Share report‘ option shares a PDF file while ‘Share EDF file’ shares a raw data file that can be interpreted by specialized ECG software.
